Counselling for Couples, Families, & Individuals
I use the effective and evidence based Gottman Method Couples Therapy. This approach addresses issues in the couples’ friendship, conflict management, and the development of shared meaning. We will work together to develop new ways to communicate, understand the underlying reasons for recurring gridlock, reach compromise, and resolve conflict. I have additional training in treating couples where one or both people live with a mental and/or chronic health issue, substance use issue, or a behavioral addiction (shopping, gambling, gaming, food, and sex). I also have training in treating couples who have experienced infidelity and who have post traumatic stress.
I have a special interest in working with couples 50+.
Does your family desire to break free from the bickering and/or seemingly never-ending cycle of acting out? My approach involves opening space to bring forth new ways for each person to better relate to one another. I will work with you to help identify patterns of interaction that may be causing pain and increased conflict. Together, we will work to create new, transforming, and healing interactional patterns to replace the old and harmful ones. Let’s discover how you can transition from relational reactivity to mindful responsivity.
Additionally, I offer screening assessment and provide consultation to families on dementia care.
Most problems in life are relational–meaning they are often born out of our experiences in relationships with others. There is strong evidence that relational factors are implicated in the initiation and maintenance of mental health and substance use issues. We will work collaboratively toward developing new ideas, thought patterns, and use the therapeutic relationship as a model to assist you in creating healthier relationships with the people around you. Improved relationships that can result in better mental health.
